Mindd International Forum on Children 2007

MIFOC 07 was held at the Australian Jockey Club in Randwick, Sydney to learn how to improve a child’s mental and physical health and reduce their need for psychotropics, antihistamines, antibiotics, grommets, cortisone cream, antidepressants and more.

Parents, educators and health professionals were invited to learn from international specialists with a focus on metabolic, immunologic, neurologic, digestive disorders that often affect the mind (hence Mindd). These brain-immuno-gut disorders require specialised treatment and a team approach.

Donna Gates was a featured speaker for Dietary Intervention at this important event.

Researchers such as Dr. Campbell-McBride and Dr. Kenneth Bock have discovered that children with Autism, AD/HD, asthma, allergies have a family history of brain-immuno-gut issues such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, Crohn’s disease, chronic fatigue, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and more. A combination of genetics, environment and inherited conditions (nutrient levels, gut flora in the gastro intestinal tract, pathogenic microbes).

When biomedical practitioners analyse the blood, urine, hair, feces and behaviour of autistic patients they find the same underlying issues; gut dysfunction and malabsorption, toxicity, infection, allergies, impaired cognitive function, inflammation (in the form of asthma, eczema, gut dysfunction, and/or impairment in brain function As Dr. Campbell-McBride explains; “We live in a world of unfolding epidemics; Autism, ADD, asthma, allergies, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, diabetes, coeliac… these conditions overlap with each other...and are related by similar underlying causes.” In her Cambridge UK clinic Dr. Campbell-McBride sees hundreds of children labeled with different diseases but presenting with similar issues of malnourishment, toxicity and poor digestive health. As a mother of a child diagnosed with leaning difficulties she realizes nutrition plays a critical role and has pioneered the use of probiotics in this field.

Widely read authors and nutritional researchers Donna Gates and Sally Fallon also discuss the importance of beneficial gut flora in their books and advocate the use of fermented foods. Both these authors have fermented food recipes available in their books.
In this modern day world of modern day diseases beneficial bacteria in the gut are crucial to good health.
